ChampionsGate, which opened in 2000, was one of the most highly anticipated projects to hit Orlando in years. First there was the designer, Greg Norman, whose name and brand denote a certain level of excellence. Second, there was the scope of the project – two 18-hole courses, a commercial center and an Omni Hotel. When the dust settled, Norman delivered with two highly, if not controversial courses. The International Course, designed to resemble a British links, quickly garnered a reputation as a rough and tumbling track best suited for good sticks. The National Course, an American flavored circuit, is a little softer and friendlier. Taken together, ChampionsGate is one of the most impressive high-end offerings Central Florida has to offer.
